It was hard to leave Kingston this morning. What a fun, hip, vibrant city this is. Sunrise on the marina was beautiful, but the picture didn't do it justice. Here is the city view as we left.

We cruised past the penitentiary and the museum of the locks as we went by in the river. We are separated from Lake Ontario by a little strip of land with a couple of openings in it. We are near opening number 1. The water gets a bit bumpy because of the water coming off the lake, but still beautiful. The tour boats stop at the penitentiary for their tours. Apparently not a max security place. lol.

We traveled along the river for an hour or so until we got to the second opening to Ontario .... that's it above. It looks so calm and inviting, and truthfully it may be today. I thought to myself as we passed this area, that THIS is what this trip is all about. Exploring what is just beyond our sight.... like the picture. We were not disappointed, for sure. It was a pretty quick trip to Picton, though we didn't get there until 3 or so. Chris and Lesley are with us. We found a marina but it didn't offer power or water. I expected primitive. If there had been another choice, I may have taken it. Here is the entrance to the adorable little hamlet of Picton. I'm not sure what it's claim to fame it. Maybe just being adorable. It isn't a big area, and the marina was right at the end of the channel.

Here is the marina. It looks brand new, and in fact is. That's the problem.....lol. They can't get the electrician to come back and connect the power from dock to dock, and same with the water. Good help is hard to find here too. The docks are a really nice plasticy-acrylic and allegedly holds up really well in the winter. Most docks around here are taken completely out of the water for the winter, but this one can sit. Neat.

We looked around for a great place to eat - which is always a challenge using only TripAdvisor type apps, and our maps - but I think we did good. The Acoustic Grill got great reviews, and was pretty walkable from the marina. We had great cocktails, and tried poutine for the first time. It's on literally EVERY menu, at every restaurant here in this area, so instead of wondering, we tried it. It is shoestring potatoes (aka: french fries) with cheese curds, covered in brown gravy. Sounds weird, but super yum. It looked a little gross when he dropped it off, but we all loved it. On the way back to the marina we stopped for ice cream, because after this carb load, we surely needed some more....lol.

Here is sunset from our marina. Not the greatest, but it was pretty hidden behind clouds.

Look how pretty the water here is in the evening. I think this is about 9 oclock. Like glass....

Next stop? The official start of the Trent Severn Waterway. We are heading to Trenton Ontario to buy our passes and permits. So exciting!!!
